Because it's excellent music.
There's good musicianship. There are good lyrics there. It's original. There's some good melodies.

It's amazing you should mention this album as being ludicrous, but exempt so many other offerings of amazement!

However, ludicrous doesn't seem, to me, to be the same as crap.

So the most ludicrous album I've ever heard is:
- A gift from a flower to a garden - Donovan.

Purple see-through records.
Flowers and gardens all over the artwork.
Songs about rocks talking to you.
Lyrics about snails on garden gates; countries that aren't there, little boys in corduroys and Starfish on toast.

An inside sleeve explaining that we're altogether and...

That it's wrong to take drugs!

I once bought an album by John Lennon, "Somewhere in New York City" I think it was called. It was so dreadful I took it back and asked to change it - it is the only album I have ever found that bad out of over 500 I own.

It is strange how the genius of Lennon can also produce such garbage.

Oh God.....I remember when Captain Beefheart came on the scene and all the truly hip people were into him and pretended to enjoy the noise. It was a modern day demonstration of the "Emporer's New Clothes" syndrome. Here's a sample:

I defy anybody to listen to it all the way through and then tell me that they liked it.

The live LP is crap. The studio LP has a few nice things. If he reduced the numer of Gottas, the Sinclair one would have been pretty good.

Ha! Nice list.

Also, I dig some Capt. Beefheart although a lot of their material does not appeal to me in the slightest.
