24 episode 1 and 2 were good, got a bit bored by series 4 but will probably still give the new series a try. Just watched the first 12 episodes of Lost the last 2 weeks and was surprised how much I enjoyed it... definately worth going for, now need to get the rest. Enjoy. For other boxed sets if you want comedy i'd go for scrubs or black books.

I don't have a TV, so every so often when I feel like doing nothing other than sitting down and relaxing I buy a TV series.
I'm torn between getting 24 or Lost, any one got any advice as of which to get, or any others I should consider?

24 rocked my world for the first couple of series, although a bit formulaic by series 3. Or maybe I just got numb. Haven't watched series 4.
Never heard of Lost. Don't think another series overdose will be good for me (went through 3 series of 24 in six weeks).

Originally posted by Silver Slayer24 is much the superior show (Lost was patchy even in season one), but as has already been pointed out, it's been on diminishing returns since season two, which took the "Apocalypse is about to strike our city and my life is falling apart" themes as far as they could be taken anyway...the first two seasons are classic television, season three is classic television after the first thirteen or so below-par episodes are out of the way, while season four was just ridiculously over-the-top (ideologically-uninteresting supervillain kidnaps the Secretary of the DoD to distract everyone while he steals a briefcase and melts down every reactor in the country to stage a diversion so he can buy time to launch a nuclear missile at LA) macho nonsense redeemed only by soft-porn assassin Mia Kirshner in episode 22.

This season is very puzzling, it's almost like a postmodern version of the previous seasons...terrorists working in collaboration with government ministers only to mislead them at the last second (check, season one), the head of the President's security breaking protocol to help him (check, season two), a rogue agent networking terror from a small screen with headphones (check, Saunders in season three), terrorists planning to release cannisters which will kill millions (check, season three). Now all we need is a high-profile, badly-voice-coached lead villain to come along and poorly simulate an Eastern European nationalist (check, season one - Julian Sands is on his way) and we can safely ignore the rest of the season - because we've already seen it.

Originally posted by Silver SlayerI used to think that season one was as good as it gets, and it probably is - but season two was probably the best of all the seasons at portraying the Presidency, and it's also the darkest of all four, with the most Byzantine layers of conspiracy (season three had them, too, but it connected them much less effectively and convincingly). There is one glaring annoyance in Kim Bauer, but she also contributes to one of the season's best scenes. It isn't perfect (you may be disappointed by the finale), but I think it ranks alongside season one in terms of dialogue, acting and storyline.

Although - season one isn't really about terrorists, ironically...as you know, stripped bare, it's basically a revenge tragedy.
