People have been saying the General Forum has been "going downhill" for years now.
The reason there are fewer recommendations on the average post? Isn't it limited to 10 per month, per person? It used to be unlimited. It's true that more recommendations are now spent on short, quirky insults or comments rather than long analytical or intelligent posts. T ...[text shortened]... . That's why the recommend posts have moved away from Debates to GF and other such places.
although 95% of it couldn't be posted here because either the robomod or the retard mod would remove it. and in the rare case that wouldn't happen, the boneheads would fill the thread with their usual garbage.
it wasn't like that 5 years ago, I'm sure you remember even though you were very young. you were very active yourself back then. and even though you were just a kid, you still had always interesting and sensible things to say. you, galaxyshield, ark & remora wrote better stuff at your worst than the couple of dorks killing this forum have written at their very best. so did the older guys. and sad thing is I'm not even exaggerating.

Private forums were the death of General. After their inclusion, there was a tribal hunting ground where General used to be, with each clan forum doing their bit to instigate and that was fun for the first year or two. But even before Red Night and his cronies began to cripple them, the forums had run dry; most people content to do what they enjoyed within the confines of their own clan forums, where like minded people generally congregated. Then the further splitting of the spirituality forum and the introduction of the sports forum. Then the incessant watering of content allowance by Russ, through the mods. Then the death of the Clans forum, where goading and sniping had been the mainstay, now replaced by 'come join my new clan' threads. Then the rise and sprawl of the trolls; now backed by over-zealous adherence to the ToS, wishy-washily overseen by limp-wristed mods who's power had become a crutch to the line treaders and finger pointers. The removal of recs and the loss of key forum characters.
I often see people being apologist, claiming that those good old days were never that good, or it's just different. That's balls. The forums were more vibrant, full of interest and culture, community spirited and the moderation was liberal and forgiving. Now this place sucks, I only come here to keep in touch with overseas friends.

Often seems most all of the attractive cowboys and cowgals want to be seen, recognized, heard and read... hopefully gaining a few bales of popularity and approval in the process, whether there's a blade of genuine self esteem or self respect involved. If so, Goethe would have had a field day with the internet.

Seemingly unassociated objectives, or associated relatives of old time RHP!
It's seen to be bad to rec somebody of an old objective and assuming clan, rather than to move on and accept futures, which should be accumulative for RHP as a whole!
