I'm doing a little personal research-- now, I know that there are some
younger folks that post here on the forums, but I have to ask this
question, and will do so in as PC a fashion as possible-- are there
people who play chess with any artificial/chemical assistance, if you
get what I mean? Obviously, don't answer if you think it may get you
in trouble with the law. Or e-mail me at tenebr8@hotmail.com if you
don't want to discuss this publicly.

Not me, but my copy of Rival Chess is addicted to catnip.

you should distinguish between pure correlation, and intentional use
to enhance chess skills. Example : when I play after having drunk
three beers, a botlle of wine, and two malt whiskies, it is pure
correlation. It doesn't enhance my chess skills noticeably. sin.

Gil, could you challenge me to a game when you engage in "pure
correlation?" Kirk

you mean you don't prefer to wait until I had a few drinks too many?

No! I do prefer to play you if you have had many drinks too many. Kirk

back to Tim's question: do you know how much better i play when i
had many drinks too many?
Anyway, you got a challenge coming. you white (first chance to
blunder- that's my trick). sin

I refer to certain substances which may, for some people, have the
side-effect of improving or enhancing their chess-playing ability, and I
don't think alcohol fits that criteria!😉

We all know that Karpov basically lived his life on these kind of
substances...Kasparov even got pissed off during their second
meeting due to the fact his trainers kept bringing him cups which
contained either amphetamines or something to that effect in the
middle of the games...he claimed they had a system worked out with
the color of the glass or whatever was contained in the glass.

Me? Just give me a beer and I play great...after twelve...I don't do all
that well...thank God for Correspondance chess. hehehe

I think what he is trying to say is:"Do you people smoke pot when you play chess?"

The answer, of course, is yes.

Precisely-- well, almost. There are other substances included in the
question as well-- ampthetamines, as Dave mentioned, coke,
hallucinogens, opiates, whatever. I'd be very interested to know how
many people here smoke to play, but of course I would never expect
most folks to answer that here. Don't want the mods deleting the
thread!

Anything beyond that is asking for trouble I think. To each his own. There are
numerous professional tournament players that are absolute addicts.I know one IM
that is never without a 7-11 slurpee cup mixed 5 parts Bicardi and 1 part coca
cola.First thing in the morning he starts.Almost always finished in the money.

I don't neccessarily smoke to play.Just to relax more than anything.Anybody that
slaves away and doesn't go completely insane has earned it I figure 🙂

I am have some coke right now (Diet). I am 70 somewhat years and
nothing like what you guys are talking about have ever passed my lips
or got into my body in any other way. I really don't think I have
missed any of the stuff that you all are talking about. To each is own I
say, but if your near my rating and are smashed on whatever I will
beat you in a game of chess. Now that I opened my mouth I hope I
can do it :~)

I agree though I an only 16. Anyway I play badly enough without
taking substances (all illegal for someone of my age). Anyway why
would you want to take drugs so you play better, if you can't play as
well when your not stoned why not just drop chess and just do the
drugs (less thinking).

Good for you David. What with the sports that you are in and your age
you sure don't need any drugs.
Peace and good health.
