ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION

I was listening to the radio today and there was a debate concerning the experimentation upon animals, in the name of medical advancement. My problem is this, if these experiments are for the benefit of the human being, why on earth should the animals suffer ?
We have a batch of guinea pigs which are ideal for such purposes, they are known as paedophiles, rapists, etc.

As much as their crimes are unspeakably cruel they are also sick as in ill, individuals who need help

They need help. I'll gladly help them tie the rope.

I suspect this topic is more one for the Debate forum... Its likely to open up some lively chat...

I'd wonder if we have the right to impose our will on anyone or anything??

Certainly in the case of your examples, I would wonder what makes you think that they are ideal?

Is it because they have done something that makes society (in general) believe they are morally/ethically reprehensible, and therefore society as a whole no longer needs to behave in a morally and ethically responsible way towards these people?? In other words, they have broken our societys laws, they no longer have protection from our laws because of this?

Its a huge area, and while I dont agree with the actions of the individual groups of people you have named, i dont believe it is right for us to impose upon them in this way.

As for animal testing - no, i dont think this is right. We should not be doing this - humans have survived for a long time without these so-called 'medical advancements'; i for one would prefer slower advancement that came with a lower moral/ethical cost.

Surely rather than costing everyone money etc they would then be serving a useful purpose in society ?

I thought I was in debates... grumble grumble.

I'll just stay away from this thread. If it ends up moving, you'll know where to look.

Is money the issue here?

I thought the concern was animal rights, and you had a suggested solution for that?

I saw a programme on television which showed someone going round a prison. The prison rooms were nicer than my uni room (which i pay alot of money for), and they had a television each, and didnt need to pay for a license.

I say use them instead of rabbits, at least you then know if the things you are testing work on humans!

Friggin human rights.
If someone is convicted of murder they forfeit any human rights they had. I say we use them as guinea pigs and piñata's at kid's birthday parties.

The solution is to clone the animals and experiment on the cloned ones leaving the real ones free to enjoy a normal life.
