I'm considering taking up this job in London. I've been commuting 3-400 miles a week for the last two months to work (by bike, obviously) and have decided that i'm probably fit enough to at least start couriering. I thought i'd see if i could get any advice here. π
Originally posted by SquelchbelchI had a bit of a run in with a £180K Mercedies the other day. Put a rather large scratch in the back but the guy didn't even stop! Guess he was in a hurry but i wasn't complaining i can tell you! Would probably have cost a few hundred quid to sort out and i ain't insured (obviously). I guess the sound proofing on those things must be really good!! π΅

Unfortunately, the money isn't enough to pay the bills.
I can tell you this, NYC bike messengers have got to be a bit insane. The pay isn't much, they mostly work on commission, so they have to bust ass in order to have a decent day. This makes them take some very crazy chances with traffic. I would imagine London is just as bad, considering you guys drive on the wrong side of the street.

Originally posted by Ray Gunz IWell my living expenses are very low indeed. My rent is £150 per month and i don't pay council tax on top (my rent is the council tax... π) so money isn't really the issue. I've been earning a pittance where i am and i've been doing 6/7 day weeks to try and make up for that. I worked 6 days last week and only took home £150!! Each shift was literally only 5 hours long so the day is wasted but i've got nothing to show for it either! π

I recon i'd earn about £100 pounds more a week, if not more and the exercise will do me the world of good i'm sure! π

Originally posted by cadwahHave been considering it for a few years now, just not really sure where to go. I'm planning a long cycling trip through France in September starting in the Pyrenees and working my way back to London over a few weeks. It will be my first long trip with a tent and low funds but with any luck it'll be the start of a slightly more adventurous chess geek. If the opportunity arises i might try and catch some work over there if i can get it but i'd be surprised if anyone got the urge to hire a sweaty Brit who speaks very little french! Hows Oz treating you? What you doing out there anyway? π

Originally posted by MarinkatombI never have been a courier for a living. I used to go downtown and steal their bikes, when they left them unattended and unlocked. π
