Arcade fire is undoubtedly the best band to come along in ages. After listening to their albums for quite some time now, I finally caught their performance on Austin City Limits the other night. Suffice it to say, they are the real deal. Wilco, Modest Mouse, or The White Stripes cannot hold a candle to them, in my opinion.

Did anyone else catch the ACL performance? Here's hoping they make it to Champaign soon...

"Funeral" was beautiful; "Neon Bible" was mediocre for a band capable of "Funeral", but still very good. While they put on the second'-most mindblowing show I've ever been to, I agree with Mr. Morris.

For me The Decemberists have produced more consistently great music, also Midlake, the Weakerthans and Animal Collective are all in the running.

(pls pick a band from 10-30 years back.)

I'd say a cross between the Clash, the Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, and the Pixies. For some reason Bruce Springstein comes to mind when I hear the cadence of the lyrics...
