Football (soccer) is the 4th most popular football code in Austraila and yet we still qualified for the WC finals. Imagine how good we would be if it was the national sport.

Well think of Ireland. We qualified- I remember like it t'were yesterday. And we have Hurling, Gaelic Football, Rugby and Soccer, AND we've only 3.5 million people in the Republic. Soccer got really popular over here after we beat England in the European Championship in '88, and then had a good run in Italia '90.
Expect the same to happen in Oz? Might well do. You played brilliantly the other day. I wish we had landed a coach like yours... You've some really good players, and he seems to be getting them to play.

Here football is the No.1 participation sport but was the most underfunded.
That changed two years ago when they sacked all upper management and replaced them with professional sports administrators and financial backers who actually love the sport.
They started a proper national comp, and now draw 20,000 to 30,000 crowds.
You are also right in saying we hope the good work continues after the Cup!
