I believe you still lost the series though .
You only hate the Aussies cause they have beaten you when the stakes were quite high.
As for being a ...[text shortened]... (remember they are part of the coalition of the willing and will use the shock and awe tactic).
If you read my initial post, you will see I did not WRITE (not right) them off.

Another thing, you did not win the series. It ended 3 - 2 to SA. The match at the Wanderers was the final.

True we did blow the game in the WC in '99, but you can't fault Lance Klusener. If it wasn't for him, we would never have gotten that far anyway.

As for your shock and awe tactic, well, that's like saying Tanzania can attack the whole of Europe. You don't have the firepower. The only thing the Aussies have going for them is their DUTCH coach.

(If Italy lose tomorrow, I reserve the right to abstain from these forums and go into a state of permanent hibernation 😉… Seriously, it will be a tough game… Aussies held their own against Brazil, but Italy really should win.)

I predict Italy will win 1-0. They´ll get one quick goal and defend all themself all the way to the quarterfinals.

Yes i stand corrected about the end result with the cricket but as for Lance Klusener ,i thought it was Alan Donald that did not run.
The shock and awe tactic was in jest to the Iraq war and its not Guus Hiddink that scores goals and saves goals is it ,the team still has to follow the tactics he provides for the team.
I think you should start gathering food to store for when you are in your state of hibernation ,Japan really should have won ,also Croatia really should have won but neither did.
I guess that is the beauty of sport the results can go either way ,bring it on i say and let the better team win ,lets just hope that it doesn't come down to a refereeing decision.

I know you were referencing old George and his cronies. Hence the Tanzanian chirp.

SA blamed Klusener because he was the senior batsman and shouldn't have panicked and run.

At least we agree on one thing... No worthless refs.

I am off to the supermarket to buy supplies... just in case.

Euro-snobs? Do I sense an ever so mild colonial inferiority complex?

It's about time for an upset and this game fits the bill.

The long and short of it is:

Australia have played very well. Coach got alot out of the team. Glad to see you go through.

Italy have underperformed, except perhaps for some minutes against Ghana.

Totti should be shot. In form or not, he's never performed on the international stage. Now he's 70% fit by his own admission, and playing poorly, and never running or tracking back, and doing ridiculous things when he does get the ball... he should be shot. Sorry ASRoma. Del Piero's past it, unfortunately. He won't choose anyone else. So when Lippi chooses Totti, then the team will struggle in his area, I reckon.

The defense and midfiueld still function well as a unit. And the Italians are a little too wise to be caught out by having their feathers ruffled.

Italy by two goals, a likely 2-0.

That was for the benefit of the purists.

At the moment, it is worth roughly 13.5 US cents.

Tomorrow it will be 12 Us cents etc etc.

What about the game against Czech?

Italy were effective. Very unattractive but effective.

That's their style.

Totti should be shot?

How dare you?

I think he should come on as a sub.

He must catch a wake up and clearly isn't up to scratch at the moment.

Del Piero should start.

OR

Del Piero in the hole and Totti and Toni up front.

Old Francesco just isn't fit yet.

As for not performing on the big stage, what about Euro 2000?

We agree though on the 2 - 0 score line.

FORZA AZZURI!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm torn. I am the son of Italian immigrants, born in Australia, have lived in Italy, and am a dual citizen but consider myself true blue Aussie. I have been playing football (soccer) since I was very young and used to get teased because I played "wogball". So I grew up worshiping the Italian teams of old. Baggio, Schillaci, Baresi, Maldini, Costacurta, Donadoni, Albertini… But also admiring the Okon, Zelic, Muscat, Wade, Tiatto and Mori’s of Australian soccer. And now, after watching Australian soccer fail to get into the WC, they finally have. And what’s more, they do me proud and make it to the last 16. So who do I support? I feel like a traitor to Italy, because I have been supporting them for so long. But I just can’t shake my national pride. My heart says Australia, my head says Italy. A lot of people say “you can’t lose”, but I say I do. Because one way or another, one of my teams will leave…… So in times like this there is only one thing to say…

GO THE SOCCEROOS!!!!!!

By the way ASROMA, a Seth Efrikan calling the Aussie cricket team arrogant is hilarious. Have you forgotten who your captain is? Yep, captain arrogance Graeme Smith himself. I guess he has to talk himself up though, because that’s all he can do. What’s his average against the Aus team? Pretty dismal isn't it.
