Sigurney Weaver's character had a school, taught them English, etc. They said this explicitly in the film.

And they did not have an American accent.

Okay, so I went to see this in 3D the other day. I've never seen a film in 3D before and I have to say that it really does enhance the experience of the film. However, the film itself is utter balls.

Imagine Dances with Wolves, on an alien planet, with blue creatures and re-written by a 12yr old.

Need I say more?

Okay, I will: Cameron should be a ...[text shortened]... is devoid of any real point, depth or interest.

Visually astounding, cerebrally puerile.
Like you, I saw it in the theaters in 3D and thought the visuals were worth the trip. Watching it here at home on a 46" LCD, the movie still looks stunning. But, just as you said, this is "Dances... " re-imagined by Al Gore.

With as much money as was spent on it, you'd think a few more bucks could have been sent in the direction of a writer or three. Hell, maybe he could have had his ex-wife lend a hand!

It was fantastically effective at what it was intended for - left wing political propaganda aimed at the masses.

YEARS have passed and superstar reputations burnt in the wait for a hit film about the War on Terror. Nobody imagined that that film might turn out to be Avatar.

...it...contains heavy implicit criticism of America's conduct in the War on Terror.

...Cameron said yesterday the theme was not the main point of Avatar, but added that Americans had a "moral responsibility" to understand the impact that their country's recent military campaigns had had.

"We went down a path that cost several hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives. I don't think the American people even know why it was done. So it's all about opening your eyes."

Do you even know what propaganda is? It's obvious that film-makers have political opinions.

Why yes I do!

Propaganda is neutrally defined as a systematic form of purposeful persuasion that attempts to influence the emotions, attitudes, opinions, and actions of specified target audiences for ideological, political or commercial purposes through the controlled transmission of one-sided messages (which may or may not be factual) via mass and direct media channels. ”

I thought you considered song lyrics to be propaganda. How then does this differ?

It doesn't, really. Did I really say that? I don't remember. πŸ˜•

Song lyrics CAN be part of propaganda, like films can be part of propaganda but it's one thing to have a political movement using media and art as propaganda and it's another to have an artist/songwriter/direct express his political opinions by his work.

In American Pie the dude feels guilty for screwing an apple pie.

It was an obvious case of liberal propaganda, like, in favor of
helping Africa, dude, because wasting food is, like, bad for Africa,
you know, because food could be, like, sent to Africa instead of
using it as a sex doll. Get me?

Avatar is not propaganda but an opiate.
