The need for God is greatest while one is still vertical, actually.

Though your mention of 'affection' is the first, it's not quite the basic human need we seldom realize at the time. Let's try a different approach: Post a simple question with your nickname (as in ......? -Bob). Then, watch what happens.

True (after death the basic need may be consummated); this one's simpler. Please follow my suggestion to lolof. Thanks.

Well, maybe I take it back. I was thinking of needing some attention from another person, (or, say, a dog) but there are hermits in this world. On the other other hand, there have been studies (in baby monkeys) of the effect of deprivation of attention and affection, and it is devastating.

    .... 'attention' is close.

It's one word with less than ten letters.

The missing word is only your opinion at the end of the day. If I feel that CAKE! is important, then I am free to say so.

Previous mention of hangman format is much preferable.

So is signing our name a clue to the actual answer? Otherwise it makes no sense.

Is having a name your basic need?

Against all odds, Sahuaro, trust me if you would like to see this basic need exemplified in prime time...

    Basic Human Needs

Nothing psychological or scientific; no Freud, Jung or Maslow; just a few basic, fundamental needs: air, water, fire, sleep, food, shelter, privacy, etc. There's one that's seldom if ever listed. Care to guess? And no, it's not a game. (OP)
