I may live away but I keep in touch with the sport in the UK, and when they asked on Radio Five the other day, who is in the running, I really couldn't think.

Is this all?

Zara Phillips (the most desirable girl from outside Sardinia, gets my vote on looks alone)
Nicole Cooke
Andy Murray
Phil Taylor
Amir Khan
Clinton Woods
Monty Panesar
Graeme Dott
Paul Hunter
Owen Hargreaves

Somebody British, win something, please!!!

Any views?

Yeah, real ones too. Not ones we made up because we didn't understand (and were crap at) all the other popular worldwide sports.

So who in your opinion has excelled at them this year so as to win the coveted title of BBC Sports etc?

Mudhsuden Singh Panesar (born April 25, 1982 in Luton, Bedfordshire), popularly known as Monty Panesar, is an English cricketer. An attacking left-arm spinner with a classical action, Panesar plays Test cricket for England and county cricket for Northamptonshire.

He has become a favourite for the England crowd due to his bowling, as well as his poor ability in the field, regularly getting cheers when he successfully fields and scores runs. His inadvertant comic reputation was secured when TMS commentator Henry Blofeld accidentally refered to him as Monty Python. His cult hero status is heightened by his wicket taking celebration, which consists of him gambolling aimlessly down the wicket, missing all high fives which are offered.

EDIT: Who knows?

I hope to Gawd it's not 'the jock' or we'll never hear the last of it from that lot up there.

Should be Button methinks - at least he won something.

I don't know what her name is, but she's usually on page 4 of the Sunday Sport (is it really a newspaper?). She'd get my vote any time of the day...
