Mudhsuden Singh Panesar (born April 25, 1982 in Luton, Bedfordshire), popularly known as Monty Panesar, is an English cricketer. An attacking left-arm spinner with a classical action, Panesar plays Test cricket for England and county cricket for Northamptonshire.
He has become a favourite for the England crowd due to his bowling, as well as his poor ability in the field, regularly getting cheers when he successfully fields and scores runs. His inadvertant comic reputation was secured when TMS commentator Henry Blofeld accidentally refered to him as Monty Python. His cult hero status is heightened by his wicket taking celebration, which consists of him gambolling aimlessly down the wicket, missing all high fives which are offered.
EDIT: Who knows?
EXACTLY! WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? ;-)
Seeing as there aint much around this year, it should be a sympathy vote for Michael Owen. Out for the first half of the year, just makes it to the world cup, ready to restart his career by scoring goals for England, OOOOOOOOooo sorry not this time lad, out for the rest of the year - got to feel for the greedy git.

I don't remember who won last year but 2005 was big, as was 2004 with the Olympics. Although aesthetically speaking (I love Zara) things have improved we could be forgiven for thinking that overall it looks a little desperate. Andy Murray may be promising but if he wins this award, even deservedly, it highlights just how uneventful this year has been.
Still a few months to go. Are there any big events lined up?
Originally posted by XanthosNZI have to say I'm less interested in the women's Tour de France, so I'm guilty too, but Cooke is not only Britain's best sportsperson but our best ambassador for sport, with her straight-talking, honest and mature attitude. It's just, hardly anybody knows.
If she were a man her sporting achievements would matter.

This set of individuals managed the unfathomable task of taking a rubbish team beyond the group stages of the World Cup. Even the most generous of critics didn't give them a chance, but these fine individuals managed it superbly. If it wasn't for some questionable refereeing, who knows how far this unfancied lot might have gone?
