Tell that to Liverpool fans who Raffa guided to their greatest win for years with alot of ageing players at the time.
Tell that to Arsenal fans who are this year in the final due to another foreign manager Wenger.
The reason fall English Clubs doing alot better is using skill and tactics with abit of British backbone.
football is international, if speaking english was a problem half the players in england wouldnt know what to do would they.
Originally posted by greenphantomActually England did win it once WITH an english manager. There are several english managers far better suited to the job in my opinion.
I respect big sam and the rest but unless you want England to never win the world cup we need to look else where.
Personally, I would prefer to lose in the World Cup than win it with a non-english manager.
It's just not cricket. 🙄
Yes but the differance then was the ball was a big leather you just couldnt perform the skills top players to these days with the modern balls.
I just want to win the world cup i dont care how we do it, you dont win anything without being open to new ideas.
I wish we did have an english manager who was good enough but not since Bobby Robson have we ever come close to it.

yes, terry venables in euro 96, was a whisker away from the final when gazza slid in about a cm too late, but then he got worse but he was still a good manager for england! 🙂
Originally posted by PalynkaWell I'll register my relief that we MAY possibly get an englishman for the job. The foreign managers do well in this country cause their teams are made up mostly of foreigners.. [or a good percentage of at least]
It would be interesting to see how many of you still support him after watching his work first hand.
It's time for a local to run the local team...
Thank you God.
Originally posted by Dr StrangeloveThat would be nice but there's hardly a decent candidate in sight, unless you count Martin O'Neill. He'd be my choice, but I have to say if Maclaren or Curbishley get it I may have to lose interest.

If I had to choose an ENGLISH manager I'd say Harry Redknapp, but even he'd be short of what's required IMHO.
He's too old now but Dario Gradi would have been a good choice in his heyday, it's just not trendy picking managers from such small ponds.
Originally posted by expressiveoutburstAlthough England can put together a first 11 good enough of winning the World Cup if they all play well and stay fit, we simply don't have the strength in depth to compete under normal circumstances with teams like France, Brazil etc, largely why most top prem clubs field mostly foreign players. This is also evident from the lack of successful English managers, the last to win the top division being I think Howard Wilkinson. Arguably, Scottish managers have done better and Scottish football is hardly thriving itself, but what I'm saying is that it doesn't matter who gets the England job, provided they are reasonable at their job, we don't have the quality on the pitch.
If I was to make a suggestion for England manager I would have a team of management made up of Stuart Pearce, Sam Alladyce and Bobby Robson but I know that will never happen lol
Originally posted by AmauroteI think this might make the next person to be offered the job a little unconfident in their employers and maybe even turn down the job. I know big sam still wants it so I say give it to him and let that be that.
They've really screwed things up now. You'd think they'd have made a clandestine approach first just to make sure. As things stand, the next England manager is now guaranteed to be publicly known as someone the FA did not regard with sufficient confidence to ask first.
