I dont know... One of my ex-girlfriends dad offered both his daughters 10,000 cash and a small wedding...or a big bash... both daughters took the big wedding.Society makes women feel cheated if they dont go all out for their wedding I guess.

Are you serious? You have every right to those five numbered statements and more. If someone, even someone in my immediate family, invited me to such a thing, I don't think I'd go.
I just think the expense is wasteful.

I'm about to attend a 275 guest, $60,000 wedding. My 30 year old sister-in-law has graciously asked us all (including my children and ex) to be in the wedding and spend $2000.00 of our own money, all told. Money has been spent, wedding is Saturday. This requires a three day stay at a hotel in the Bronx, NY, dresses, shoes, makeup, hair, jewelry, hosiery, a ...[text shortened]... ow the 30'somethings are too. Big rings, big weddings, big food, big drinks.
Why?

It's just sad to spend so much money like that. 60K would be excellent on a house but they chose this way.
Which reminds me: they will likely get a big chunk of their money back from monetary gifts. My friend had a 48K wedding ten years ago and got 42K back that night. She is Italian and this is customary.

Jeez, when I got married I ended up footing the entire flippin' bill for everything. And got very little cash in monetary gifts....WELL under $1k I'm sure.

Then, when they sold the house they made 100K on it (it was a three family structure) and bought a new house outright.
In the divorce, my friend had to refinance it and pay her ex 178K to buy him out. Ouch. Now she has a 500K house with a huge mortgage she can barely pay.
Life sucks 🙁

1. I still view it as one of the best days of my life. Our photographer sucked (some of our guests took better pictures.) and all we had was cake and punch at the reception, but the important thing is we celebrated with our best friends and family. Those things we didn't spend money on we don't miss at all. $60K is a bit wasteful.
2. So what if she gives up her career. As long as it's what she wants to do. I left the decision up to my wife and support her in whatever way she chooses.
3. Then it is incredibly wasteful spending.
4. Sounds like they can afford to be wasteful. Too bad they can't think of helping others...Bet these people don't complain about $4.00/gallon gas.
5. Have fun. If they choose to blow all that money, you're not able to stop it. Might as well make the most of it.
Bragging about how much one spends on a wedding sounds quite vain. (I guess so can bragging about how little, too.)
