I'm about to attend a 275 guest, $60,000 wedding. My 30 year old sister-in-law has graciously asked us all (including my children and ex) to be in the wedding and spend $2000.00 of our own money, all told. Money has been spent, wedding is Saturday. This requires a three day stay at a hotel in the Bronx, NY, dresses, shoes, makeup, hair, jewelry, hosiery, alterations, tuxes, gas money, etc. It's been unbelieveable. It will be fabulous. We will dance the night away. Everyone will be beautiful.

Then they go to Fiji for two weeks. They haven't even bought real estate.

When I got married, I had 45 people at my wedding and it cost 12K and it was simple and elegant. I'm getting divorced and that was 11 years ago. Not that I plan on marrying again, EVER, but I still wouldn't have a GIANT wedding. But the other women of my age at that time were having luxurious weddings. They all had huge diamonds.

Is it awful to admit that my foremost thoughts are:

1. What a waste of money.
2. She's going to give up her career to have kids.
3. They will likely divorce within 12 years.
4. They will move into an enormous McMansion.
5. I am going to eat myself to bloating and then get smashed at the open bar to make up for the cost of this thing.

These big wedding extravaganza's bother me. I used to think that just the 20'somethings had these weddings, but now the 30'somethings are too. Big rings, big weddings, big food, big drinks.

Get her sister drunk and then bang her out of spite for having to drop so many duckets. If she has no sister then go for the mother or grandmother.

I got married last year and it was an amazing experience, but cost nowhere near the £30,000 mark, closer to a quarter of that. Is a day I will never forget.

My wife and I are expecting our first child and I do not believe we will ever divorce.

Life is great!

Why?
Big weddings are crazy, I don't see the point. Luckily my wife agreed.
Our wedding was under 10 grand, which was paid by my mother-in-law.

We asked everyone to rather just give us $$$ instead of presents - Hell, after we came back from our honeymoon we still had about 30K left over...

7. I spent well over $100 per person.. and a family of 5 bought be a damn $25 toaster😠

8. I dont even see or talk to 99% of the guests anymore.

9.I could have bought a hooker for a year and it still would have been cheaper than getting married.. and I wouldn't have had to keep the b*^&%.

10.Wedding planner!? I actually paid some bi^&% to boss me around😞

11 We went to Vegas afterward anyways..I could have paid $100 to get married and spent 40grand on strippers.

12 $40,000 on a wedding.. and I had to borrow $3,000 for a down payment on a house.. that was smart.

13. $800 for mariachi. STUPID. I should have let them play ..then 15 min before they were finished .. call immigration.

14. Do men really know how much flowers cost!?... anyways.. they are all dead.

I dont know... One of my ex-girlfriends dad offered both his daughters 10,000 cash and a small wedding...or a big bash... both daughters took the big wedding.Society makes women feel cheated if they dont go all out for their wedding I guess.

Are you serious? You have every right to those five numbered statements and more. If someone, even someone in my immediate family, invited me to such a thing, I don't think I'd go.

Sun, I have to say (and I think I speak for the entire JD clan here) that IF you go down this route... ...we're gonna want to see video evidence. πŸ˜›
