Suggest a UK ISP :-

- cheap
- no more than 12 month contract (don't like the 18 month being offered by some)
- at least 30 GB not 5 GB or 1 GB data which is a mickey mouse offering
- dynamic or single IP no preference

I would have looked at the ads but my firefox+adblock+firewall mean I have not seen an ad for a long, long time.

The best place to look is at ADSL guide forums.

I use talktalk but that's 18 months contract and they have some sort of "fair usage" policy I think. It's the cheapest though, £20 pm 8mb + phone and line rental covered. [If you already have SKY telly, you can get a reasonable deal with them too]

I wonder what happened to ADSL2 ? The packages being offered are laughable given that unlimited is now something like 30 GB. There was a programme showing how users in French have a box that provides TV+Broadband+Phone for €20 (20 Euros) while we have to pay through the nose for all those individually.

It was over taken by the development of ADSL2+

You won't get decent broadband in this country until they upgrade the PSTN exchanges and replace the ancient phone lines.

BT are wondering why there are so many people who have never used the internet. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6979849.stm I would say it is down to BT's expensive piecemeal approach.

Last year I was with a cheap ISP that offered unlimited broadband for £10 a month. Whilst the cheap ISP collapsed, they got their lines from BT wholesale. There is no reason why BT cannot offer a good deal directly to consumers.
