Building a gaming/quad core rig

I'm don't wanna be left behind while guys in the playchess engineroom have quad-cores and dual-xeons. What's the best way to build a quad-core system that I can overclock? Proprietary BIOS come locked down so you cannot overclock them or so I'm told.
