I always offer a handshake . Lately I've been switching some greetings to "Have a good game" .

I thought the "die well" was cute , Nyxie .

How about: "May the best man win (as long as it's me)"?

I haven't done much chatting during games. Villain and I did exchange a few thoughts, and he seemed like an all-around good guy. [I am presuming male, since the name is not "Villainess."]

Because shockingly enough women play chess too.

Churchley. I've played 25 times (lots of rematches sent) and everytime he has been fun to talk to and discuss things with.

But Good Luck or worse still GL are redundant lazy expressions that don't mean anything.
Exactly. I would suggest something like: 'War is war, loser.'

Just for the record, Mr. Grice and I have met on the field of battle four times. The first two times my rating was lower and I think he underestimated me and moved a little too quickly (at least that's why I lose games I shouldn't lose). He was gracious in defeat. The last two ga ...[text shortened]... at least I hope I do), I'll have to throw down the gauntlet and challenge you to a tie-breaker.
Look forward to it.

You should - you can tell a lot about someone via their resignation message.

I never know the apropriate response to the greeting "good luck"?

Should I say thank you?

Why are you wishing me luck? Why do you want me to be lucky?

Should I offer an equally shallow saluatation?

I'd rather be win by skill not luck thanks.

In other internet chats you will be greeted by a/s/l? (age sex location) - Noone ever shows that ...[text shortened]... lazy expressions that don't mean anything.

So I'm siding with No1 in the dispute above.

When I receive a message like 'good luck' I tend to just reply 'likewise'. Costs little and the original sender obviously had good intentions. In general I don't tend to open dialogue with my opponents, but will always respond.

Fiesta definetely goes on the list of charming and amusing players!

As for wishing an opponet good luck, it is simple good manners. A courteous response is thanks or good luck to you.

Part of the reason luck is needed in a game is sometimes it is pure blind luck that I see a checkmate developing for me or against me....and I have a slight tendencey to throw my queen away and pure blind luck is what saves her.....

I even wish that my opponet play well. I learn more and enjoy the game more...

I always start a game by saying: "Have a good game."
Winning doesn't bother me.

I can honestly say that I've not met one rude person during a game yet. Even people who I cross swords with on the fora (like Chancremechanic and Slimjim) are absolutely polite, friendly and funny during matches.

I love you all.
