Chess and gambling

I was just wondering why chess has not become a game that people bet on, what with poker and backgammon becoming so huge in recent years.

Any thoughts?

its to slow and theres no chance or luck factor. the average paul merson can't stagger into a chess *haul* and clean up by getting lucky.
