Now this is funny. I hope I'm not repeating anyone since I didn't read the whole thread. Do you realize that the game wasn't invented by a white man? It came from the middle east from Muslim countries. Read "The Immortal Game" by David Shenk. Excellent book on the history of Chess.
By the way wouldn't you think that by White moving first black would be thought of as superior? Losing the first move to make the game fair?

irish legends do tell us of a game very similar to chess
i amn't suggesting the form we play didn't come from the middle east
but to point out chess is as nearly as old as people as we know them
