Q. How often do you see games posted where the poster lost?
A. Very very rarely, if ever.
Look in the Chess forum and people are posting their games willy-nilly - winning games only, of course! Games you have lost can be interesting too btw.
In over a year at this site I can remember only one game being posted by the loser and that was an unrated game tutorial type thing against a player booted for engine use later.
Do you think chess players are inherently conceited?
Originally posted by Dr StrangeloveWhile I don't deny being conceited, I have to say the two or three games that I've ever posted were for laughs because they were such total disasters, and definitely (even though I won) showed me for the patzer I am.

give me a break... Although you bring up an interesting point I don't see what the point of this thread is. What are you looking for? Some collaboration to make you feel a little more secure? Perhaps you'll get some interesting perspective on the subject, people will state their opinions and you will further make a deduction about the rhp chess community. Chess players are conceited, it's so harmless. What should you care if it's just some silly thread degrading players based on your conclusions? I find it interesting how you proclaim to understand a whole community of beings based on what you see in some stupid thread. Shame on you sir.

Newsflash for artplayer.
Threads in the General Forum do not have to have a POINT.
Edit; talking of stupid threads, how's your "roll-playing" thread getting on?
Originally posted by Dr Strangelovelol. It's going good. Sorry if I came off as a bit of a jerk just then, I just got a little annoyed that you were ragging on other players. But seeing as you're probably right, I'll take a shot at your question. Are chess players conceited? My guess would be no. Not in general context. It is a little interesting however that posters tend to show their better games, and I completely agree, there's no shame in a good loss, or the proclamation of it. In fact, here's a game I thought was played very well by my opponent.

The post that was quoted here has been removednor is there much reason to show games you screwed up.
"now here's a gem where I, um, let the opponent infiltrate my camp because I miscalculated some pawn exchanges. then I proceeded to drop a rook. there was a chance of perpetual after that, but I missed it because I was drunk and moved too fast."
