What happened to his friend Alexander Alekhine who started the thread by saying Chessisvanity was a good guy who had been banned for 2.5 years even though this was not publicly written anywhere.

I think once he got the 32 month forum ban he decided to just go ahead and make it permanent.
Observed from a distance it would be fair to say that he just unraveled.
