btw, did you notice I posted a solution to your installation problem? you don't need to give chrome admin. unless you want to install it to multiple accounts, which kinda makes all kinds of sense when you think for a second.
At work, my networked PC isn't totally free to me (totally paranoid security policies - no memory sticks has been on the way for ages, but there'd be a revolt), so I have to have a second computer off network with full rights when I'm writing programs to automagically perform brain surgery on our non networked PCs.

Why should a software developer for say Apple, Microsoft or Google be an admin on his PC?
Have you thought about this question? Do you know what a software developer even does?

You tell us because you seem to have a big mouth/itchy keyboard fingers. Also link to KB's from Redhat, Sun, Microsoft explaining technically why a software developer needs to be admin on the PC/Domain. Even when compiling software on *nix you are advised not to build packages as root. The more you open your big mouth, the more it seems your words are coming from your posterior.

A software developer does not need to find in a knowledge base why they need to be logged in as admin, because doing tasks which require admin privilages is an everyday part of his/her job!

If no one runs their PC as admin, why does it even exist?

For example, on a regular bases as a software developer, I have had to change registry entries, allow sharing of folders, and access certain restricted folders, and run DBA applications which are specifically locked down in non-admin accounts. In fact, everywhere I have worked, I have never been allocated a non-admin account, because of the very nature of the work!

Granted that you can use the "runas" command along with admin user and password parameters to do certain things, but this would be extremely tedious and slow to do this all day and every day. It is far easier and more practical to develop software with an admin account.

The casual user often just does web browsing and the occasional word or excel document. They don't need an admin account, and is safer for people who aren't as experienced.

EDIT: By the way, microsoft would generally recommend the public to run as non-admin, because they don't want to be held responsible for inexperienced users to ruin their PCs, but there are just certain things you have to do as admin. If you are doing these things all day and every day, you would stay as admin.

Hmm, I've looked at this, but never get around to trying out VMs. You use VirtualBox?

Nope, just MS virtual PC.

It does the trick. We also have a lot of VPN client software on 1 PC which are incompatible with each other, so we have a VM for each client.

The other use of VMs we have is for legacy software. XP SP3 prevents a lot of software from working that used to work even on SP2. So now we distrib a VM with XP SP2, as keeping some of the PCs at SP2 isn't an option.

I can vouch for virtual box. I find it VERY useful for testing legacy browsers, that kind of stuff.

I'm not surprised the dozy google people allowed a fake Chrome OS download site to be hosted on their servers. http://www.thewhir.com/web-hosting-news/102909_Google_Chrome_OS_Download_Confirmed_as_Fake

n00bish ranting? U never cease to amaze me. You have run out of logic and your position is defenceless, so you illogically bail out this way.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

You have been made to look like a hysteric with your rants. You read whatever you feel like into people's posts, trying to prove a point no-one except you care about.

So yes, you seem to be ranting about a fart in a hurricane.
Good luck with your anti-google campaign - I for one won't be wasting my time debating with you, because no matter how much sense everyone else makes, you just seem to like the sound of your wheelspin too much.
