Thoughts?
We can share our first impressions tomorrow after the launch,
presupposing there's available bandwidth to support mass downloads (I'm guessing yes) and that anyone will actually try it (also, guessing yes).

I'll be testing the site as soon as I get it installed. Although another browser to test against hardly fills me with joy, it is still quite exciting news all the same!

It's only a beta release. Don't bust a gut testing it!

Now now, we all know Russ subscribes to glacial time.

Slow, but practically unstoppable.

There is nothing on earth that will stop me testing a *new* browser such as this. To me, its just fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

If you have any interest in tech, then I recommend you check out the Google announcement here:

http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/

I believe this to be big news, and finally a serious attempt to dislodge MS and promote web apps over traditional local/installed apps. I'm quite excited about this for a number of reasons, many of which will become clear in the near future.

Not to mention that it's a google product... those people should know how to make a good browser.

I'm with you on promoting the web apps but I reckon Chrome will only dent the MS stranglehold. It seems more in tune with the Mozilla and Linux brigade so I'd imagine most of it's users will come from that side of the market. Plus, knowing MS they'll already have something in the pipeline to counter Chrome and will release it in about 6 or 7 months to entice people back over. ๐Ÿ˜•

This will go much further than just a browser, it is expected to be a complete front end, where the conventional GUI desktop is replaced when Chrome is run as a shell.

That's how it will work, but that doesn't mean it won't get a fancy name.

Is this a move by Google to block the ad-blockers? Online ads are a big part of their business plan.

Will they use the browser to inflate ad exposure figures? Probably not, since it will be released as open-source...
