Quite so.

Looks like Google and Mozilla are going to work together for now,
so that probably a good thing for everybody.

I doubt that, it´s been a couple of years for them to try and best Mozilla and the result of that isn´t looking too good either.

However, give me Konqueror any day πŸ™‚

I´ll disagree with Russ here too. I think web apps will be bit players for as long as it is legal to own your own PC. Software vendors have been trying to go back to serving users applications for years and years and it hasn´t really happened. Strange really when in the days of dumb terminals and X terminals that´s all the users ever had.

I think you need to make a better distinction between web based apps and Software as a Service (SaaS), though.
SaaS may not have taken off as everyone predicted, but web based apps are going very strong and I believe it's only a matter of time before we will only need a browser and broadband connection to get our work done.

Thoughts?
We can share our first impressions tomorrow after the launch,
presupposing there's available bandwidth to support mass downloads (I'm guessing yes) and that anyone will actually try it (also, guessing yes).

I saw a preview of it.

It looks gay.

Well, if gay is working pretty damn fast and looking sleek whilst doing it, then we have a winner.

First impressions? Very nice.

Go here to download it and check it yourself.

All good so far. I will be using it for day-to-day work for a few days, and see how it goes. The only issue so far I have seen is a minor error in the rendering (corrupt graphics) when the scroll bar pops on and off during a window resize. I have seen this on an XP and Vista machine, so clearly a Chrome bug.

edit : and the default colours are quite complementary to RHPs blue and whites. πŸ™‚ (IMHO)

I like the way it highlights active inputs on forms. One of those nice touches you usually have to build into the CSS as a designer.

And the built-in option to resize text inputs. Looks like they looked long and hard at successful FireFox add-ons.

Too bad we probably won't see built-in ad blocking πŸ˜‰

seems okay as a first impression. quite bare, but I tend to like that kind of thing. chrome refuses to get skinned though, so it pops out quite badly from the rest of my OS...

I just hope there won't be similar idiotic mob attitude in pushing it like with ff, with people scripting their pages to not load into ie etc... the spell checker just highlighted 'ie' so looks a bit bad. ie. with a period is flagged as well... that kind of ideology peddling really disgusts me.

looks like there's some kind of pop-up blocker already, at least there's a checkbox to disable it in the options. (oh, I just realized chrome automatically installed in finnish, I hate that. I have no idea if it's 'options' or 'preferences' or something else in the english chrome, because it's 'oletukset' in my chrome. πŸ˜•)
