If so, go to the manufacturers driver download site and get the latest one. I have been going through a situation where it has reset the video res to 4 color and the same res as yours. No solution in sight for me yet. One thing I found out from Nvidia, my card's manufacturer, If you download a new driver, it doesn't automatically replace the old one. I found that out the hard way. There is a program called 'driver sweeper' with a link given to me by their support team, maybe you can google it, anyway, it erases the old driver for sure, then you can download a new one. I thought if I erased the old driver, the screen would go blank and that would be that, but there is a default setting that lets you view your work till the new driver is installed and you restart the computer. I just googled it and it comes up, GURU3D driver sweeper, so its right there. I guess if you have internal video, you need to go to the MOBO manufacturer for their driver. BTW, if you are using internal video, try a cheapo video card, but be sure to de-activate the internal video when you do the change. The program Driver Sweeper, lists a lot of drivers, so only highlight the one you want to get rid of, Video adapter, is the name when I did it. It also had something like 'video chips' driver, you don't want to kill that one, just the one called video adapter.

Also check your boot.ini file (should be in the root of your system drive), if you can see "/BASEVIDEO" anywhere, then you have been screwing around with your pc too much. To fix, you have to edit that file. http://tinyurl.com/yzzfxg
Also, PLEASE stop finding things out the hard way.
