Get a program called Revo Uninstaller when you start cleaning out programs. It helps with the uninstall and deletes the leftovers for you.
My PC is also running much smoother since I canned AVG and started using MS Security Essentials.

Regular use of CCleaner will ...[text shortened]... Start->Run->services.msc
Find Themes, double click it, Stop and set to Disabled, click OK.
Do you advise this Revo Uninstaller even if one already has CCleaner? Normally I use CCleaner to uninstall programs.

Another thing I've seen that does help increase performance a little is to convert to NTFS if your disk is possibly formatted as FAT.

NTFS can bring some performance increase, although it's minimal, but it helps with fragmentation issues, which definitely does become an issue on FAT32 and FAT16 formatted drives.

Bring up[ the properties dialog for your hard drive and check the file system. If it's not NTFS, then check out this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307881

CCleaner just runs the uninstaller. Revo hunts down leftover files, folders and registry entries and gives you the option to delete them all.

Does anyone actually have a FAT 32 hard drive these days?

You won't believe how many pre-built systems still come out formatted as FAT32.

Yes, but CCcleaner also has a Registry tool that seems to do that. Or doesn't it?

I haven't compared the two, but CCleaner may help you out in the registry. It won't remove leftover files and folders though.

Ok. I will install Revo and see if there is any difference at all.

CCleaner will remove all the leftover temp files.

It won't go into your Application Data folder and remove the user settings that the application leaves behind in the event that you decide to install the program later.

I prefer to do that manually anyway.

Hmm, it doesn't tell me what it's doing, so that is a giant red X in CCleaner's column.

Revo shows you all the files, folders and reg entries found that may be related to the uninstalled software and let's you decide which to remove.

As you already know: When you uninstall something with CCleaner, it just runs that application's uninstaller. It's not CUninstaller.

Revo is pretty cool. I use it from time to time. The junk files scan takes really long though and doesn't tell me what it's doing, so that is a giant red X in Revo's column. 😛

Ugh, I missed TEMP FILES in your post. So sue me.
