Why is so difficult to read sign "Fragile". I have 5000 $ of damage on my musical instrument just because some employe throwed it like trash.
Does sign "FRAGILE" mean "throw harder" for airport employes ?!?
And yes, ironically flying company it is not responsible for damages over 500 $. Nice.

I've seen considerable damage even when packed securely in a flight case. A word to the wise: Don't let anyone touch it. If the airlines are insistent, come prepared with a legally binding document for them to sign that says they will reimburse you for twice the value of the instrument immediately upon landing if it is so much as scratched. Get a lawyer to prepare this document in advance and carry it with you at all times. Insist that the travel agent take some responsibility before you even book your flight. The pilot makes the final decision, and ask him to become involved. Otherwise don't fly. Drive, take the train, take a bus, sail on a ship, but don't fly unless the airline takes full responsibility. (It's best to refer the matter to the pilot and hold up the entire flight if you can.)

When I went to the US, I didn't take my cello along. The only time I was flying with my cello was when I went from Frankfurt to Budapest for a concert. I had a ticket for the cello (the organiser paid for it). My cello actually had to pay more than myself because I was a student and got a rebate. I pointed out that my cello was more than 100 years old and should get a rebate for senior citizens, but no. π And it didn't even get food. π
