Was anyone at any of the anti-war demonstrations in various cities today? Today, I went to Trafalgar Square out of curiosity and agreement with some of the sentiments being expressed -- I was impressed with a lot of what I heard, and decidedly unimpressed with some of it. If you were there, what did you think?

We've got one in town tomorrow that I might go to. I'll let you know.

Let me know how it goes. I talked to two really interesting people and a few absolute nutters today. Also, if you go, I'd be interested to know who speaks and what they say.

This was the first large rally of its kind I've been to, although my expectations were mostly accurate. Brian Eno seemd inarticulate and out-of-place; I was pleasantly surprised by George Galloway, however. The other speeches varied in quality, but I thought the range of issues addressed was a bit too large and I still think the format is wrong for spreading all but vague notions of what's sensible.

Religous right jerk. To all those who are not Americans - fools like this will continue to lose influence and power.

As an American I apologize to the rest of the world for having to put up with this jingoistic crap.

I happened by the one here in Vancouver, by chance. It sickened me that their keynote speaker was a deserter from the US Army. Good young people are dying for others, and this cowardly puke is running away? Worst is my country is allowing him to live here, while Canadians are dying fighting for freedom as well? If you're against the was there are ways to avoid, but at least be a man and do your duty. Cowards have given up their right to free speech, plain and simple.

Really? There were, I'm told, an estimated 80-100 000 people in Trafalgar Square yesterday and from my position in the crowd, I saw no violence. I did see a lot of people milling about discussing things before the marching crowd arrived (I got up too late to join the primary march, so I just beat them to their destination and waited, with hundreds of other people). I saw a fair amount of random hugging as well. There were some nutters, but no violence AFAIK.

HH - I think it's easy to use words like "duty" and "coward", yet forget that not everyone agrees what constitutes either of them. In fact I suspect there would be more disagreement than consensus.

"There's a 'bad moon' on the rising"...CCR, circa, 1970..bad moon, you sound like the sensitive type. To all feedom-loving, red-blooded Americans on this web-site, I apologoze for this kneejerk responder who probably fantasizes about bin-Laden's 72-virgin-induced priapism.....badmoon, go look in the mirror and apologize for the zit that sits between your shoulders....
