I have just been diagnosed with the disease.
I have long suspected I had it, but I fear doctors. 😕
Anyone else a diabetic, and could you share your experiences?
beer is especially bad for diabetes. :-( and if you smoke, you just got another forcing reason to cut it.
Originally posted by wormwoodI was overweight for years. In the last 6 years I went from 350 to 230 lbs. I have no doubt if I was still that fat I wouldn't be alive today. I have type 2. I quit drinking a while ago, and I cut out sugar and cut way down on carbs.

A Reeses Peanut Butter Cup and Pepsi sounds sooo good, but keeping my limbs etc sounds better.
Thanks much for your replies, even Huck's. I know humor when I hear it. 😉
Originally posted by Ice ColdThat sucks, but I am glad you got over your fear and went to see a doctor. My father got diagnosed several years ago. It means a lot of measuring, calculating and injections, and things like stress or an irregular rhythm mess with his blood sugar and can get him into trouble, but altogether he's doing very well. He can eat just about anything he wants, he just needs to adjust the amount of insulin he injects before eating.

His father most likely had diabetes as well, but wasn't diagnosed, and this may have been the reason of his rather premature death.

Not sure what experiences your interested in, it is a insidious disease because if uncontrolled it can affect so many parts of ones body.
I started out taking oral medications which more or less are stimulants for your pancreas to produce more insulin. My pancreas got tired of being stimulated I suppose and just gave up making insulin all together. So I had to go on insulin injections, at the time I hated needles but the syringes today are so thin as to make injections
painless.
I guess the only other thing to say as a generalization is excerise and weight control.
With all the sugar free and no sugar added foods out there today, you can satisfy your sweet tooth fairly easily. Just moderation in everything I suppose.
