That sucks. I've heard you should turn it upside down, so all the water collects in the tops of the keyboard keys and doesn't seep into the computer and short it out. Good luck.

Disconnect from mains and remove battery immediately (do not even shut it down through the normal procedure). Any components that you can see you might want to rub very carefully over with a clean toothbrush and distilled water (don't want limescale). Although this would be rather more difficult with a laptop than a desktop PC. Leave for about 24 hours to dry.

That is presuming you haven't already knackered it.

EDIT: Oops, seems like you already have.

Don't plug your laptop into a Honda Generator! Fried it about 3 years ago at a car show in Hershey PA.

No it was wine on mine and no it didn't work again, but it didn't cost that much to buy another one.

Edit, oops sorry I only meant to the keyboard to my desktop, although I have had a laptop stolen before

Further to your advice I must add that spitting out a gobful of milk and cornflakes all over the keyboard certainly doesn't help with your laptop's efficiency either.

Moral of the story - Don't open messages from mates containing funny J-peg's whilst eating your breakfast.

I've done it a coupla times. Turn it off, turn it upside down and try to get as much water out as you can.

Don't try to turn it on for 24 hours. Leave it sitting upside down. Keep the cats away.

The danger, AFAIK, is that the stuff they make the circuit boards from will absorb the water and swell, which in turn wreaks all kinds of havoc.

When I did it, it wouldn't spin up for a day or two; once I let it dry completely, though, I came back and it fired up. Had to run Checkdisk on it, but otherwise all systems were go. And yeah, my laptop's still cruising. Using it right now, actually, and it's 3 years old to boot.

Left it by a radiator once.

It melted the screen and the floppy drive.

I haven't done that again......

My sister did it while we were in Guam. After sprinting down the street in 95 degree humid tropical weather to ask my father what to do, I sprinted back and held it upside-down in front of the only moving air I could find, the air conditioner.

Columns of the keyboard stopped working, so only about half the keys were functional. Buying an external keyboard remedied the problem for a few weeks, until the backlight of the monitor gave out.
