As a random word of warning - Bosse, MIODude, and cadwah, be careful. Uvatha Rex has the highest victory rate of any nation. Thus they must be pretty strong. We don't know who's playing them, but they are probably more experienced than MIO and cadwah at least.
so i still dont know why?
I'm not on the mainland, and my opponents are a few provinces away, so i just went for it while i had the chance to do the feifdom thing.

I suspect you didn't take into account the possibilities of amphibious invasions. There is still time; this game's first turn is due tomorrow, not today. You can always change your mind and resubmit your orders. I do it a LOT - sometimes more than the 7 times they say you can do it.

Thanks for the heads up

Don't build catapults yet 🙂.

If in doubt, build heavy warships which can transport troops and/or heavy infantry (high HP). It's hard to go wrong with either choice.

One of the mice that live in the hall overheard your cat talking about this game and it was that mouse that taught me all I know

He probably spammed everyone in the game with an alliance request. It doesn't hurt to accept. Sometimes people do that and wait to see who refuses, and then consider those people who refuse an enemy. I generally accept those offers.

I don't suppose it matters a toss at the moment but if you can build up a good relationship maybe it will benefit you in the long run? I don't know.

Right now I am invading 2 provinces, one of which by sea. question - will 2 skeletal archers and 2 vampire knights kick the tail of an ogre (ttl combat 36 ttl hit points 7) in a lvl3 stone tower? Or should I reassess I have no idea how this combat will work and I just seem to confuse myself when I attempt to read the rulebook.lol.

Don't try to figure it out yourself. Download the battle calculator from the Yahoo! Group (I am assuming DL has one...MD does, though that one doesn't work perfectly for me, it works well enough).

If you wanted to calculate it yourself, here's how you would do it:

First look - you don't have any high HP infantry in the fight! Bad idea generally, but possibly necessary. Your losses will be from your high value units. However the Ogre has no high damage backup (archers/cavalry), so won't be able to do much damage. Moving on...

Ogre: 36/7

Level 3 fort has Fighting Room 18, Ogre takes up 3 - no problem.

Assume Ogre gets Infantry bonus (potential problem - maybe monsters can't use forts?)

Fort combat bonus: +49% (this is the percent of the Combat added to Combat, not a flat addition to Combat) which is approximately 50%.

36 + 36*0.49 ~ 36 + 18 = 54 = Ogre's adjusted Combat

Fort HP bonus: 1.0

7 + 1 = 8 = Ogre's adjusted HP

So, we have the Ogre with 54/8

Assume NOT amphibious attack (if it IS an amphibious attack, your troops will be weaker).

Your forces: 2 Skeletal Archers + 2 Vampire Knights

2*(80/1.8) + 2*(200/4)
160/3.6 + 400/8
560/11.6

Your army is much stronger.

The battle, on average, will look like this (note there are no losses at the end of odd numbered rounds):

end of 2nd round: you take 2*0.54 = 1.08 damage

Ogre takes 2*5.6 = 11.2 damage

Ogre will die, you will take 1 damage. If skeletons are in front, then this means one is wounded and has a 1.08/1.8 = 60% chance of death at end of fight. If V Knight is in front, one will be wounded and will have a 1.08/4 ~ 25% chance of dying at the end of the fight.

You'll win, but you will either probably lose a Skeleton or will maybe lose a Vampire, depending on how you set up your troops.
