when do the fireworks usually start in these games, and do we get reports on battles between users that we are not involved in?

2 Drow Assassins. They defeated the creature that was there
Drow Assassins are Spies, as you can see in the rulebook. Your pair of Assassins have an effective Combat of 4 for the purposes of taking territory, which is less than 10 and therefore is not enough.

Fireworks generally start whenever the map starts to run low on Independents, though they could start any time. First turn assaults are not uncommon from what I understand. There will be wars any time now.

You get no automated reports of any battles except your own. You need to gather information via diplomacy (i.e. e-mails).

While we're answering questions, can i take an unannexed province from a neighbour without declaring war??
Only if it is an independant province.

If a player controls it, you will have to go to war or be given it. If it is an independent province not owned by a player, you can have it. If it is owned by a player but "locally controlled", you can't.

ok, thanks.. so.. does that mean the combat calculator is incorrect? as when I plug in 2 drow assassins, it comes up with 40 combat

Divide by 10 if they're invisible (can they go invisible?) otherwise you are correct, MIODude.

No, they have 40 Combat for the purposes of battle. The calculator is correct.

They can indeed go invisible, but they still suffer the inability to conquer easily if they are Spies whether or not they are invisible at any particular time. It's a balancing rule to keep people from sneaking past enemy lines and grabbing land easily. It can still be done, you just need large bands of Spies.

Would all those I am sharing scouting with kindly ensure that the favour is returned, as I am not receiving from everyone. Thanks.
Dunno if I'm one or not but will check in a few days - just got to a computer after arriving back in NZ and was only allowed to download the diploware briefly to make my next turn (paranoid friend's computer!) if I promised to delete it immediately - which I just did.

Back home in a few days! 🙂

Man, my last turn sucked! 😀😀😀 Have to ask my warriors to put their armour on before their next fight!

Tell them to lay off combing each other's hair, this isn't ancient Greece.

You'll be happy to know, ATY, that I am unable to make Gnome cavalry. I tried last turn and got the massage that those troops were unavailable there. I'll try to build a Gnome archer this turn and see what happens.
