Either Sven has made a huge mistake in not getting him involved already in the games (putting him in untested against Argentina? yeah nice one Sven), or he plans not to use him at all (therefore the mistake is taking him in the first place).
I totally agree! He is hardly going to play him in the knock out stages. If he doesn't play him against Equador then the balls up is sealed. He was talking about taking 5 strikers at one point, what happened to that? Owens injury isn't Svens fault, but we needed a tried and tested striker in reserve. Crouch has out done himself in recent games, but do we want to depend on him as a lone striker? I think not!

why the fcuk are all you people looking at the situation negatively??

We have a great midfield who arent shy from taking a shot and the worlds best free-kick taker, after all how many forwards have scored so far??

The next game maybe another case of playing one up front with one tucked behind??

Im sure over the next few days the defense will have to brush up on staying glued to the man they are supposed to be marking because we dont want to suffer in the next match as we did tonight.

Its not over yet so dont give up, we just have to re-evaluate the situation and change the formation to suit who we have left.

These problems should have been dealt with already. Ok, we have won our group, but we haven't met very strong opposition. Sweden are no where near their best, yet we still can't win. Would you expect the World champions to beat them? I think the answer to that question is obvious.

lol - I'm still optimistic, after all I think we played great in the first half without Owen. I just think Sven's made a big gamble with strikers and now one of them is out. You may be right we might not need them, we'll see.... 🙂

Yes our mid field was good, especially Joe Cole but what is Hargreaves doing there and where was our defense. A goal from a throw in - you must be kidding. When did you last see that. Against a real team we must score from our chances (we won't get many) and can afford no cock ups in defence. Can you really see our guys managing that? Maybe against Ecuador but Holland/Portugal - no chance.

So far England have played well below par - yet they win their group.
I see no panic situation YET.
They are still capable of improvement no worries. 🙂

The world cup is like the Grand National, there are many horses with the capability to win it but its what happens on the day.

England obviously have to take each match as it comes and hopefully perform better than they have so far. Its only 3 more good games out of them and we are in the final.

Its down to who can pull the stops out on the day, who would have thought we would have beet the Argies 5-0 a few years back?? Thats because we had a good match. So far England have not performed as we have seen them when they are on full form so dont you think and hope that that will come in the next few games??

People are saying that there is not chance that we wouldnt be able to win without Rooney being in the sqaud and now the media automatically start saying theres a slim chance we can win now that Owen is out.

Instead of looking at the negatives think of the positives and move on.

I am shocked at the whole Owen injury, WHAT a set back! I simply cannot believe our luck. Every major championship, something like this happens. I despair, i really do. The promise England have shown in the months building up to this championship has been great, what happened to their confidence?

What kind of message does Walcotts selection send to the rest of the team? An untested kid with zero proffesional experience is picked for the highest level of football, over countless tried and tested strikers. He is obviously NOT going to play, what an own goal. Nothing against him, just can't understand why??????????? If you're going to take him, then PLAY him. Let's see what all the fuss is about!!

If you happened to keep your eyes on the match you would realise that Hargreves had a great game and near the end of the match he was the only player still putting 110% in, constantly running for the ball.

I don't want to sound negative, no one wants England to do well more than i do. I am just disappointed!! We were really motoring coming into this tournie. 3-2 against Argentina, in a tight, quick, double edged game. WHO scored the winner? If we play them again, which we surely will do if we don't get knocked out early, who will score the winner then? Peter Crouch as a lone striker in front of a 5 man mid-field? Argentina have gotten better, MUCH better. If we'd played Argentina today we would have been spanked like a baby. Maybe they can turn it around by some miracle, but if i know England...

I'm not so bothered by the Walcott selection but I we did need another striker, and we could have done without Jenas in the squad. I just can't imagine the circumstances in which he would play.

That's juat it! Maybe in 4 years we'll be calling his name but how can Sven play him now? Maybe bring him on if we're 2-0 up or something but we are unlikely to have that luxury now that it's sudden death.

At the start of the tournament I COULD imagine the circumstances in which Walcott would play. Even then, though, I couldn't see Jenas getting a game.

We've picked too many midfielders, particularly given that Carragher can play there.

Defoe should be there, Jenas shouldn't, and Sven shouldn't have picked players (Walcott, Carrick) that he doesn't appear to trust.

In the second half England's defence was woeful against set pieces, you can't help but agree with the Swedish manager ... Sven is obscenely overpaid

Agreed, but a good game to watch anyway.
