The Epitaph

Here rests his head upon the lap of Earth
A youth to Fortune and to Fame unknown.
Fair Science frowned not on his humble birth,
And Melacholy marked him for her own.

Large was his bounty, and his soul sincere,
Heaven did a recompense as largely send:
He gave to Misery all he had, a tear,
He gained from Heaven ('twas all he wish'd) a friend.

No farther seek his merits to disclose,
Or draw his frailties from their dread abode
(There they alike in trembling hope repose),
The bosom of his Father and his God.

By Thomas Gray (1716-71).

The best!

What more would one desire?.. 🙂 :'(:'(

As you now are, I once was,
And as I am now, you will soon be.

(as seen in the bone art thing in Rome)

I want just a simple sentence for my epitah.
"I'll be back..."
And, also, I want to have a special electronic sensor hidden in the gravestone so that as people turn to leave it plays a recording of me going ha ha haaaaa - that should be a good laugh.

On Spike Milligan's headstone it reads "I told you I was ill". However, the inscription had to be written in Gaelic in order for it to be approved by the Chichester Diocese

An Epitaph of the War (1914-18):

"If any question why we died,
Tell them, because our fathers lied."
