My parents have grown old. They are still here, and still functional, for the most part. Still rational.

I treasure every moment I get to spend with them. They won't be here much longer, and I love them.

Think about your family, and make sure you enjoy the present - the current moment - with them, so that when you are old and sick, you can look back on your life and remember this moment. You will feel good about your life if you do. You will go through personal Hell later if you don't (guilt and remorse that is).

Even though I knew this 15 years ago I didn't #know# it, ya know? It's very true and a deep regret for me. It's nice to know some hear it and they #know#. Maybe I was just too young to get it.

Definitely make the most of your time with elderly parents. My Dad died when I was 19 and my Mum died four years ago. It's strange to not have parents any more - and nobody will adopt an orphan over 40 years old! 🙂

they'd be happy to adopt you if you show up at the nursing home!

My family are disjointed, disfunctional and disappointing. I plan to make the family with my son and partner none of these thing.

Do you think it was your family's intention to create something disjointed, dysfunctional and disappointing? Sometimes these things just happen unfortunately. 🙁

Not at all, but I doubt they were aware enough, nor cared enough to see the signs of impending situations. I intend to think more about how my actions impact on my family than they did.

I was hoping for a very wealthy 'parent', to be an only child and that they would have no other living relatives. 😀

Incest is best?

EDIT - My Dad used to work for a man who lived with his "son"...
