Yeah, I watched a program on tv now about fast food and obesity. It said that when you eat a burger and fries and had a soft drink with that, you're getting in 40% of the calories you need per day. That doesn't give you too much slack for the rest of the day does it.

Well maybe if they took a little responsibility for their own actions for a change, they wouldn't be the obese leviathins that they are. You can order a salad at McDonald's instead of a triple cheeseburger. Nobody put a gun up to their heads and forced them to order a tankard of Coke and a wheelbarrow full of fries with every meal. Eating at McDonald's has never made anybody fat. What has made them fat is their own grossly irresponsible eating habits and complete lack of exercise. I have no sympathy for people who are always trying to find a scapegoat for their obesity, while they shovel enough food to feed a battalion down their gullets. If they're fat, it is their own fault and nobody else's. Until they own up to that fact, they'll always be fat. Change starts with the individual taking responsibility for his own actions, and not by him pointing his pudgy finger at McDonald's.
Do you think marketing schemes by fast food companies targeting kids is immoral?
The kid throws his toys out of his cot if you wanna give him vegetables because he wants a McDonalds Happy Meal with a toy...
And because families have 2 breadwinners nowadays there's no time to cook a proper meal.
Now the kids AREN'T allright and 1.5billion people worldwide are obese.

I'm not pointing a 'pudgey' finger at McDonalds or any other company for making adults fat. I'm talking about the schemes targeted at the kids. They wanna have McDonalds to get a stupid toy (the same goes for the other companies - most of them have these kiddies deals). The parents give in to this and therefore the kids get the junk food and they become hooked.
I'd agree 100% with the above (rwingett) if we were talking about adults.
If marketing is aimed at kids, the kids pester their parents and the parents submit, then the parents are responsible for making their kid unhealthy.
But the companies are partly responsible for this - they know what they're doing when they target kids.

It's a vicious circle, kids aren't getting enough exercise and are spending too much time in front of the tv and pc - therefore being exposed to a lot more marketing by the *evil* fast food industry. They get more obese and then get even less exercise.
Round and round we go.

For what it's worth. I am 55 years old and have never been to a McDonalds, or a Wendys. Have been to a Burger King one time and KFC maybe twice. Terrible tasting food. Who would want a BK thingy when you can cook real food in just a few minutes?
What's wrong with a good old chip shop eh?
PS. I've never even seen a Wendy's whatever they are.
