This problem of marketing towards kids is easily overcome. Don't own a television, and the kids won't ever see the commercials.
Problem solved.

Originally posted by CrowleyI'm no fan of targeting kids in advertising, but unfortunately, I doubt it's ever going to change. Still, my mother *never* would taken me to a fast food place so often that I could collect a full set of toys, no matter how much I begged and whined. Granted, there wasn't such an intense level of advertising way back in the mists of ancient time that were the 1960s, but I can't imagine her caving in to the pressure even today. Parents just have to be tough about it (which is easy for me to say, of course, because I don't have any kids). 😉
It's not advertising in general that's the problem, but the incentives to get kids to get a certain meal and get some toy out of it.

Then the kids will bother you to get a TV before they even see the ads. Now you got double the problems...

All while maintaining an impeccably academic record. It's amazing what people can accomplish when they aren't distracted. 😛

I actually think limiting kids tv watching is an excellent idea. But it takes disipline from the parents not to use tv as a baby sitter to keep them occupied and quiet.
The more you can encourage your children to interact with the outside world, in sport, music, or community service, the more complete the young adult will be at the age of 18.

Eating at Mcdonalds once a week proabably does no harm on it's own, but eating nothing but fast food means that you are getting too high amounts of fat & protein and not enough of other essentals.
Are the Mcdonalds food harmful to our health?
Remember, everything in moderation. If you only ate fruit you'd get ill eventually. There have been several cases of people dying because they drank too much water. Oxygen will kill you if you breath too much of it.
Of course, unlike fruit, water & oxygen, there is no need to consume Mcdonalds at all, and you'd suffer no ill effects by never eating it again (my plan).

So, cigarrette smoking is dangerous to our health?
If you're going to smoke, only smoke tobacco that does not have additives. I made the switch from chemical laden cigs to pure tobacco cigs about two years ago, and it has made a world of difference! while I am still addicted to the nicotine, I found out how much we become addicted to the other stuff in the cig as well. My health has improved over time as a result of this and I don't "crave" in the same way most people do. It is much easier for me to go without than another person who smokes the same amount on average but smokes the regular cigs with the chems.
My fellow smokers, I appeal to you. If we were truly smart we would quit, but since we're not, let's atleast do the dumb thing in the smartest fashion possible (if that can make sense).
