So after faffing around for several months trying to fathom why Firefox keeps shutting down I think I've finally nailed it. I've rolled it back to a previous version (1.0.7). Tonight I installed macafee site advisor and it has started misbehaving again. So I'm assuming that any update of Firefox makes it malfunction on my PC. What a bummer. 😠

If you try it in Firefox safe mode you will be able to tell if it is the extensions causing the problem.

Maybe the problem isn't Firefox but McAfee.

Disable SiteAdvisor and see if the problem continues.

Tools/extensions/highlight and disable SA.
I've been using that for months with several different versions of Firefox.

I uninstalled siteadvisor but the problem persisted. The only thing that stopped the problem wasto uninstall FF and reinstall it. The problem has now ceased. All I can think is that Site Advisor permanently alters something within Firefox to make this problem occur. 😕
