I had the very horrible experience today of getting caught up in football hooliganism after the Swansea/Millwall game today, and some of the things I had to witness were completely out of order! There were thousands of fans outside the ground fighting with police, throwing rocks and wood at police and the horses, the horses and dogs were charging at the fans and also the police were hitting people with their batons! Why does this have to keep happening at football matches? Swansea won the game for gods sake! No need for it whatsoever!

"No one likes us and we don't ******* care".

Who's fault was the violence? I can't tell if you are blaming it on Millwall, or Swansea, or both.

The first time I went to a Crystal Palace game me and a mate got in a fight with some boys on a bus. They started it, and we never did decide wether it was football orientated or not. I didn't think it was my mate was convinced; they were wearing shirts of the team Palace had beaten the week before.

I've got in some football orientated fights in other situations, at school etc... but nothing major, and the way I've always percieved it is that I wouldn't start anything, but I care enough about my football teams to at least try and defend their honour if it comes to it.

You all need to get some cheerleaders and learn the fine art of what is called "tailgating" where you cook, eat and have a good time.

Inside the stadium it was both sets of fans faults, and outside it was Swansea's fans fault. They tried to get the Millwall fans when they were leaving on their coaches.

I have heard sillier things, but still worth a rec-gesture.
I still cannot believe they actuall organize trips for the visiting fans. That's just plain silly.

It's the police's fault for being ignorant in their jobs as the football fans increased. It's the hungry buggers out to rape the system of all they can get their hands on. It's the supporters fault for caring more about themselves, than their team that plays. Me, me, me, me, me!
They did a great job in my opinion, they handled the situation in the way they are trained to do, just the government are stupid and train them to try and block evreything up instead of trying to calm the situation.

I don't think it is silly to have away fans at the games, but there has to be alot stricter regulations, like no alcohol sold at the stadium, also people who have had a drink can't be let in the ground. I'm not saying it's all alcohol related, but that would help the situation a good deal.

I thought it was just alcohol fueled stupidity, but actually saying something like 'I will defend my team's honour'? This goes beyond belief, even for an impressionable idiot like Fred.

When my team loses and the opposing supporters give me crap, I just smile and say 'See you next year, [insert mild insult here]', but there is no way I get home with a black eye and bruises and then tell my girlfriend how I defended my teams bloody honour.

Good god, for a first world, civilised country, the English can really be a bunch of idiotic thugs.

Firstly I would like to empathise with expressive - large scale violence is always scary to get caught up in.

The blame lies with idiots who "defend their clubs" honour but good policing, and proactive clubs can help.

I would like to see community service for all offenders, and letters sent to their employers explaining how they act out of work hours.

All the Brits who say we Americans are uncivilized barbarians should keep this in mind.

Do we say that?

We might question your politics. We might infer you a a dodgey knowledge of world geography. But rarely do we say you are uncivilised barbarians.
