A few years ago I aquired a french press, and have been using it exclusivly since. The problem is that now I have taste inflation. I tried to drink perc coffee at a friend house, and did a spit take. I have even started to travel with it. Is drinking unfilterd coffee unhealthy?

Unfiltered coffee is like unfiltered cigarettes. It's not good for you, but it's manly. Anything unfiltered is manly.

Enjoy the Snob World. I drink Nescafe. Yes I like the good stuff. But ..I need coffeee. and Instant. Another great Japanese invention...Instant coffee.

yes some have called me an animal for liking Instant coffee..but having lived in Russia for long time before..The bourgeois coffee like Starcrap was not available.....only humble Nescafe. So next time you drink your Fench press coffee...Remember most of the world drinks Nescafe and other instant coffees......

I use instane coffee when i make mixed drinks. White russians on other similar drinks. I do enjoy the snob world though. Like I never eat iceberg lettuce. I only eat fine chocolates. I go for quality or prefer to go without.
The problem in the US is that everybody wants, but they don't make demands for quality.

When will you fruits learn? I just drink straight black coffee, no milk, no cream, no sugar. Sometimes I even go so far as to distill the caffeine and eat it in its raw crystalline form.

I don't know about yours, but my French Press has a filter. Well, maybe it's more like a screen.

Either way, it does make a wonderful cup of coffee. Add a little whip cream on top and it is HEAVEN!

I agree with you. I own a french press and a bean grinder. I own both because they were given to me as gifts. Yes, I prefer Godiva over Russel Stover, and fresh ground over instant, but I'm not one to park a porsche in a one-stall garage.

Same experience, once I went french press I'll never go back.

There definitely is a 1-way path to coffee snobbery though, I used to drink the freeze dried stuff they have for free at work, with no complaint. But now I can't choke it down if you paid me. My officemate and I make french press daily.

My office mates would laugh heartily if someone dared bring a french press to work. Why not tote in a chess board while you're at it?

I place chess at work all the time. The Eastern European Engineers can't get enough of it.
