When you walk down any street you run into beggers/panhandlers who are asking for any help you can give.
Now some are not homeless but how can you tell who is and who isn't?
I give atleast 2 dollars to each one regardless.
Do you? Why or why not?
but if i had any food on me, i'd be more than happy to give up my hamburger for a prying eye
I saw a guy (comedian, 1st Nations) on a comedy show and he said one day he went into the financial district of Toronto at lunch time and waited outside one of the "Glass Towers" and when a 'gentleman' came out he said, "Hey you" and the guy looked around wondering if he were talking to someone else, and the comedian said, "Ya you, come 'ere" and the 'gentleman came over at which point the comedian put his hand in his pocket and said the the 'gentleman,....."Want some change?"

Typically, I make it a rule to NEVER give change unless I know that the money is NOT going towards drugs or alcohol. So rarely do I give change. Like Anon, I sometimes will buy them a coffee or a sandwich and give that to them but even then, that's pretty rare. Guess I'm desensitized to it now. I used to give change quite often and give in to people's sob stories until a good friend of mine became a social worker in the city and I started getting the real scoop on things...
