Chris was wrong. And he remains wrong as the utter inability for anyone to formulate a rationale for why a picture of Kunta Kinte is "offensive" and "racist" shows.
Chris' short-tempered response was unfortunate.
You, of all people, who glorify many people who leave this site for utterly petty reasons or are tossed off for ...[text shortened]... good ones are a complete hypocrite for now supporting the "love it or leave it" standard.
I'm not going to get sucked into this cesspool of a "debate"
This will probably be my last post on the subject.
I want to comment on one statement by you:
"the utter inability for anyone to formulate a rationale for why a picture of Kunta Kinte is "offensive" and "racist"
Context. Context. Context.
A white guy, pretending to be black, joins an organization of other white guys pretending to be black gangsters and pimps and uses as his avatar a picture of a black slave in chains and you can see no reason that anyone would find that offensive?

Government-run schools in Australia are open to all children.
Why do you keep up with the racial sniping? You sound just like a racist. Are you a racist?
And if you can't understand why the subject of race is being discussed then you have clearly missed the point of elame's crusade. I'm insulted at your insinuation that I'm a racist. That was completely uncalled for.
Originally posted by Red NightIt's (thankfully) almost a historical term now, but the term was certainly used in abundance when I was in school during our reformation. It might be a little bit further back in your memory, as an American. Nevertheless, it is a valid question as elame was in school during a time of Australian reformation. I don't know if they had separate schools back then for non-whites. Do you?
There was something eerie about the way he used the term "mixed race school"
Sent a shiver up my spine.

As I said, this is just a continuation of a petty vendetta. An avatar of Kunta Kinte is not offensive or racist in any context.

Excuse me, but a number of times, he has intimated I am ignorant. I was being sarcy, and just thought, I'd throw it in his face.
Perhaps you should read on Aboriginal History in this country, and then you'll see where I'm coming from.
Also, I've tried reading on Aboriginal history and SO MUCH of it has been covered up. Surely you'd know that, at least?

Stop holding double standards. You can't say you weren't ignorant of the show roots and then come back and say he is ignorant for not knowing you didn't learn about african history.
I feel sorry that you didn't learn anything about african history in school. That means there is a huge gap in your education because Africa is covered extensively in most s ...[text shortened]... on, a conversation you shouldn't even take part since you are ignorant of african history.

However since you brought it up, I have my opinion but now is not the time for me to give it to you. Come back when you are being truthful.
You previously stated that pictures of Nazi victims in camps was "anti-Semitic" just like you believe that photos of slaves in chains are "racist". Since you want to censor images from Roots by logical extension you'd also want to censor images from Schindler's List. That's what you have implied unless what you really mean is that certain rules should be applied to BWA members but not for others.

You're his Charley McCarthy; if you think he's wrong, say so.
Originally posted by hopscotchI am 64 years old, and began school in 1951. There were aboriginal children among the kids in my class, as there were immigrant children. We regarded the "balts" (this slang has an obvious explanation since a large number of refugees came from the Baltic States) as the "others", the dark-skinned kids were on our side of the fence. The only sorting of schools that I remember was by gender in the private secondary schools, because so many of them took boarders. We didn't exactly have racial disharmony, it was more institutionalised ignorance which translated into things like job preference, and these were the things which got reformed in the 1960s and later.

I understand why the "subject of race is being discussed", and I haven't missed the point of Elamef37's argument, which is that her ethnicity is being used against her in a negative way. If you're not a racist, you've certainly been posting in a way that raises that possibility.
