Anybody here suffer from attacks of gout?
Somebody recently told me that drinking a glass of brown vinegar a day rids of it.
I have googled, found varying responses, both medically and publicly which prove nothing.
I know gout is caused by risen levels of uric acid, which the kidneys can't process fast enough, and those acids get intoo the bloodstream and cause the crystallistic forms of blood in joints, with massive pain.
I thought vinegars are acids...... and would perpetrate the issue?
Does anybody know of anybody, or somebody, who suffers from this illness, who has tried the vinegar medicinal option?

Hi Mike, I've had it for years. It flairs up at odd times and with no reason that I can see. There are medicines that relieve the pain once the attack starts (much better than OTC painkillers) and medicines that help stop the formation of the crystals that cause the pain. Of course, consult an MD about those. Drinking plenty of water on a daily basis is the one thing that works for me to prevent the flair-ups.
Best, Steve

If you feel an attack coming on, drink cherry juice. Works for me as well...
Originally posted by mikelomDrinking acidic substances shouldn't exacerbate the issue. As you rightly know, the pain from gout is caused by excessive uric acid in the blood. However it isn't the uric acid that causes the pain. It is the formation of an insoluble salt, Sodium urate that causes the pain. Key word there being insoluble. Most acetate salts (vinegar salts) should be soluble.

-Removed-Thanks for the kind words, as ever, Darvs.
Yes she does mate - and doesn't or can't work out what is causing this. In answer to a lot of the info given, I take allopurinol daily, and colchicine when I feel an oncoming attack . I drink plenty of water, and eat sea food not as often as I would like. Of course, that means I eat plenty of meat 😳, but like most men I enjoy my food 😉. I am slim, yes, Phlabbs, but I still get regular attacks despite all of the above.
I wonder if stress can cause gout attacks? - I find nothing on the web, and there seems to be no study carried out about this.
I wish a gout attack upon nobody, not even you Dravs - 😛 - it's excruciatingly painful!

Ahem,
I have also suffered this for some years now, I recommend the following tablets:
Diclofenic 50mg, Taken 3 times a day, as soon as you feel the pain come on, in two to three days the mild pain goes away.
Allopurinol 300mg, once a day to stop it ever coming back.
The latter is for older people to stubborn to change there drinking/eating habits and enjoy free perscription's.
Those that have to pay through the nose, Diclofenic never go on holiday without it........happy days!
