215. She looked down and saw that the "paramedics" had removed her prosthetic leg whilst she was under their care and she'd have to remain in the ambulance and try, by guile, to talk her way across the border. She tried to remember if they spoke French in that part of New Brunswick and since she couldn't she decided to use it anyway as it would probably be easier to dazzle them with her ability to speak both "official" Canadian laguages.

214. No, she didn't have a prosthetic leg. Sorry.

216. Right it just looked that way to her in her drug induced stupor. Remember she made a wrong turn on I 95 going south instead of north. As she neared the US/Canadian border she turned off the road just meters from the border crossing and as the actual border has no barriers (unlike with the US/Mexican border) and the crossing near Houlton was manned by a yocal, who at this time of night was busy watching The Letterman Show on chanel 5 out of Bangor, she was able to easily slip into Canada.Once she was safely across the border she took her cell phone out of her bra and made a call to Fritz but there was no answer. She left a message asking him to please call as soon as he was done doing whatever it was he was doing. There was an urgency in her tone that she'd hoped he'd pick up on. Now all she could do was wait. As she began to walk towards Woodstock (No not the one in New York the one in New Brunswick) she noticed a diner and stopped in and ordered a large poutin and a 50 and waited for the call from Fritz.

Chapter 7. Fritz!

216. Fritz saw Sheila's ID on his phone and pondered whether the call should be taken. The game was complex. Wild exchanges were taking place in desperation. Fritz calculated and calculated, looking at 214 M moves per second. Doyle was frozen in place, surrounded on all sides by treachery. Lizzy was still in micronesia thinking that she was covering an important event, a total ruse. It was only after Fritz calculated another level deeper that a potential winning line appeared. It involved the red stilettos and some photographs of Sheila eating some dark chocolates with Ben and Ken. Fritz knew that Doyle would be furious. It was time to call Kervey back into action. Fritz smiled as her pressed CALL SENDER and Sheila answered, exhausted on nervous. Fritz wondered if there would be an international surcharge for the call.

217. Then he remembered that he'd , just last month, changed his "package" and there were no up charges on international calls. He thought to himself, "there better bloody well not be for the money I'm paying for this damn thing". Sheila said "what were you up to? I'm exhausted on nervous" Fritz replied, "What? I don't understand". She brushed off the question saying she was still under the influence of the drugs and the 50 didn't help.

218. Fritz asked, "Did you get the information from Ben? Do we know where their next takeover bid will be?"

219. To which Sheila replied, "Yes I believe there was talk of something in Shanghai".Fritz said , "Yes that makes sense when on factor in the fact that chess sets, and good ones to boot, are being made there for pennies on the dollar. By the way how is Ben?" She realized that she'd forgotten to tell him about the accident and proceeded to do so. Fritz said, in a tone that she'd never heard before, "you'll have to go back and eliminate him but do it so nothing will point to us". Fllods of emotion coarsed through her mind at the prospect of having to "whack" Ben but she was ,when all was said and done, an agent and a good one at that and as such there was no room for those kinds of feelings. She said "Right you are I'll report back after the deed is done" and with that the conversation ended.

220. Ben was dazzled by the elegant beauty sauntering up to him melting into his arms, an electric animal magnetism drawing them together . . both thinking of only one thing . . .the box of dark chocolates waiting for them in the master chamber. they embraced and kissed, and then kissed, deeper, clinging to each other and an 86% dark smooth godiva square that they shared. Ben was ready to spend eternity with Sheila enjoying this moment and little did he know how right he was. at least until Doyle's spies reported to him that Sheila was back with Ben. Doyle fumed.

221. Except for the short time it had taken to find the little row boat and cross the Penobscot river, Ken had been carrying Ben and his field pack for the better part of three hours. Fortunately it was mostly wooded and sparsely populated terrain. He had zigzagged his way through the night for 3 miles on foot from the I-95 cloverleaf where the accident had occured to the small airport in South Brewer. The Bangor International Airport would have been closer, as he could see the end of the runway from the accident scene, but security would have been tight there. As it was he had made several L-shaped confusion moves to avoid and evade the police who were advanced like pawns all over the local board.

222. The overburdened Ken was very tired, and Ben who had been phasing in and out of conciousness for most of the journey was beginning to halucinate. He was mumbling Sheila's name and something about chocolate.

223. It was four in the morning. Ken made his way to the large hanger and opened the door. He set Ben down on the floor and dropped his field pack. Relief. He allowed himself to rest for a moment and then begin tending to the injuries of a halucinating Ben.

The bone in his right arm was broken. The right distal humerus to be exact and curiously also the 3rd Metacarpal bone of his right hand.

He had a number of abrasions and contusions, and he wasn't concious enough for Ken to tell if he had any paralysis or unobservable brain or spinal injuries. His eyes responded to the little penlight, so that was a good sign. "Always where your seatbelt Ben." Ken muttered. He did the best he could with the field pack medical kit.

223. Sheila was slowly coming out of her stupor. confused, dazed, laying on the bed surrounded by empty dark chocolate boxes, and no Ben. How could he have survived? What happened to her? Did she fail in her mission to "neutralize" him? Fritz will be FURIOUS! What now, she thought.
