High on the list for me: Stan Rogers, Gordon Lightfoot, Ian and Sylvia and Joni Mitchell. Anyone else of that stature?

Might I add Leonard Cohen - who is #1 with me - Buffy Saint Marie, Bruce Cockburn and, although he may qualify more as a rocker, Jesse Winchester.

Yep, good choices. You say Anne Murray HAD a great voice? Is she dead? Or you say 'had' in the sense that she no longer records?
BTW, have you heard Cockburn's Mosambique? A chilling song.

Sorry. Should have said has. I simply hadn't heard her in a long time. I'll have to check that song out. Thanks

Funny enough, John Lennon cited Anne Murray's cover of "You Won't See Me" as his favourite Beatles cover ever, and Elvis thought she was tops...according to Wikipedia, anyway.

This begs the question: did Elvis bang Anne Murray?

I wouldn't really call him a folk singer myself.

I think he is in that general catagory, like Bruce Springstein, a rocker with folk tendancies. Bruce never really liked the rock catagory thrust on him. Remember "looking for the ghost of Tom Joad"?
