My most expensive one was a Chet Atkins Gibson, Dave Matthews played this model in his earlier years, but he can afford top notch Martin's now 😛

If I could afford it i would get a Martin

1. If you could afford any guitar, which would you buy?
2. I am selling my hollowbody Ibanez and my Les Paul and buying a new guitar. I am thinking of the Maton BB1200. Any other suggestions?
It depends on what you want in a guitar, and what kind of music you play. What kind of sound are you after? My suggestion is to go to a local guitar dealer, and try them out. Show the salesman you are serious, and tell him what you want in a guitar.
Buying guitars on line is like shooting craps. What if: The neck is bad, or the frets or fret board isn't true? Or the electricals aren't working properly? It is an oredeal to say the least to send it back, and wait for a returned instrument. You are always best off to buy from a person who will stand behind his product, and you can deal with face to face.

If you have dealers with both a Maton and the Gretsch , play them both. See which one had the right feel and sound for you. Those two guitars are not very similar in feel or sound. Usually the Gretsch has a wammy bar The Maton doesn't.How much do you want this feature?
Do you want a hollow body guitar or solid body? As a metal musician I have found hollows to be undesriable because of the excessive feedback when using distortion, overdrive, bark etc.
In my experience one guitar usually doesn't fit the needs of most musicians. Maybe buy one, and out the other on lay away(if available) 🙂

Yeah the DuoJet im looking at doesnt have the bigsby, and the Maton dont have a wammy. Not interested in a whammy at all. The maton is a hollowbody. I must admit, i like hollowbodys.

You've met my girlfriend then?

Yeah, and the amps go all the way up to 11 too.
Nigel Tufnel: The numbers all go to eleven. Look, right across the board, eleven, eleven, eleven and...
Marty DiBergi: Oh, I see. And most amps go up to ten?
Nigel Tufnel: Exactly.
Marty DiBergi: Does that mean it's louder? Is it any louder?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?
Marty DiBergi: I don't know.
Nigel Tufnel: Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Marty DiBergi: Put it up to eleven.
Nigel Tufnel: Eleven. Exactly. One louder.
Marty DiBergi: Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?
Nigel Tufnel: [pause] These go to eleven.

Also found this particularly funny:

[Nigel is playing a soft piece on the piano]
Marty DiBergi: It's very pretty.
Nigel Tufnel: Yeah, I've been fooling around with it for a few months.
Marty DiBergi: It's a bit of a departure from what you normally play.
Nigel Tufnel: It's part of a trilogy, a musical trilogy I'm working on in D minor which is the saddest of all keys, I find. People weep instantly when they hear it, and I don't know why.
Marty DiBergi: It's very nice.
Nigel Tufnel: You know, just simple lines intertwining, you know, very much like - I'm really influenced by Mozart and Bach, and it's sort of in between those, really. It's like a Mach piece, really. It's sort of...
Marty DiBergi: What do you call this?
Nigel Tufnel: Well, this piece is called "Lick My Love Pump".

Well, I bought my dream guitar: Ibanez RG550EX (http://www.ibanezregister.com/Gallery/RG/gal-rg550ex.htm - the black one - actually glittery black).
But of course we always lust after something else.
I've always wanted a Gibson SG in cherry, but I've never owned a genuine Strat either so I'd like one of those - the Buddy Guy one is nice, and they are the ultimate versatile guitar.
Not a big fan of retro myself, but Gretches, ES335s, Burns and the like are popular at the moment.

I've never heard of Maton, but apparently Tommy Emmanuel has one and he loves it, and he is one of the greatest guitar players in the world (he's even Certified! 🙂). Could be a good one.

He's an Australian guitar virtuoso. He mostly plays solo guitar, and sometimes sings. He has a unique style, but it's akin to other jazz/country guitarists like Chet Atkins, Lenny Breau, Don Ross, etc...sort of a "one-guitar-orchestra" style. He received the title of "Certified Guitar Player" from the Chet Atkins Institute (Association? Club? I forget 😕), which I think is kinda funny, but he's an amazing player.

EDIT: Here's his website: http://www.tommyemmanuel.com/
