Just so that everybody stays happy in the long term, I'd like to say something to the younger members of the site.
Never give out personal information. To anybody online! No matter how happy they make you feel, how many smilies they use in posts/pms, no matter what they have shared with you about themselves, no matter how much they act like youngsters themselves.
They are a lot of sickos out there, trying to pretend to be your friend, so they can arrange an unsupervised meeting or something else. They will make up characters to earn your trust, maybe even multiple characters. They may tell you all kinds of stories to show empathy with a personal situation which you may have shared. They may act like children themselves, despite being middle aged. They may act like father figures to you, possibly watching what upsets you, and then setting up a crusade "on your behalf" to gain your trust. They may even use an engine to make their moves so that you will respect them.
They will try anything. The only safe way for you to behave online is to never give out more than your first name, to ANYBODY you meet in an online forum/chatroom.
Even on RHP, we've had all sorts of people try all sorts of things. Russ has received letters from worried parents who read explicit messages sent to their children, people have used information garnered from the forums to attack people's work websites, or to divulge personal details to others. We even had the whole Miss Hope fiasco, where a lot of people got burned by somebody looking for attention who got a lot of people to share their own personal pain due to "her" pretending to be near death. These people were deeply hurt at being caught out by a craven attention seeker.
My point is that these sickos can be anyone, anywhere. Everything from chess rating to names to profile photos can all be made up.
Just be careful...
