So far I've had some really great games on here and this is the first bit of truly odd behaviour that I've come accross. I guess I was just wondering if things like that happen often to other players as well.
There might be an ulterior motive.
Originally posted by DudermoonerWell, one time several years ago I wanted to play some chess. But my live-in girlfriend was not happy that I was doing something which 'ignored her' and she needed to be the center of attraction. So what happened was every time I looked at a chess set, opened a chess book or tried to play chess on-line, she would parade around in front of me naked and cooing as if she was in heat.
Such as?
Needless to say, I would abandon my efforts to play chess and take care of her needs. This went on for a couple of years and my chess rating dropped from Expert level to Class A.
After our breakup I got back into chess again, but I was like an athlete who hadn't practiced in two years, playing against the pro's.
I learned two things from all of this:
1) you can't make a relationship work based on sex.
2) you can't give up chess.

I don't know why he does that, but it's good enough to know to avoid people like that next time. Check out their games within the first moves. That way you can trash it.
Originally posted by reader1107Good call! I looked through their games. A whole lot of resignations and time outs. Glanced at one of the check mate wins as well. Think I'll stay clear of that sneaky snake from now on.
Was it SneakySnake14? He must have had a Bad Scale Day today apparently, resigning in eight games against jdavidson and eight games against jduke all on the same day. I hope he recovers quickly!
Originally posted by reader1107I think the truth has been revealed. While some players are so driven to artificialy raise their ratings that they will go to any lengths to try to manipulate their results to get better scores. Other players, however, are motivated to artificially lower their ratings. Why? One reason may be that they are playing for a clan and they can help their clan advance by getting matched against much weaker players. The rating has NO material value and the way ratings work, it doesn't matter if you are rated 1200 or 2200, if you play honestly against legitimate opponents, your rating will be what it really should be in very few games.

Originally posted by coquetteYa but this guy isn't a subscriber. So what would be the advantage there?
